A tender smile. A knowing glance. A forever memory.

Watching, mesmerized as colored water bled into the fibers of a paper towel - it’s among Dan Iverson’s earliest memories. Ironic that even as a toddler, he was captivated by the interplay of shapes and colors.

Dan stayed true to his creative side through grade school, but didn’t pick up his first camera until 15. Within days, he was hooked. His first images were a study of his grandfather’s violin - the curve of its ribs, the lines of its neck, the contour of the instrument’s whorl-like scroll.

As he continued to master his craft, he became engrossed in the study of light and form. Moving into photojournalism, he soon realized the value of using his art to tell a story.

An award-winning photographer, Dan has nine times been honored by the Minnesota Newspaper Association for best photography. He understands the permanence of a photograph, relishes the value of recording history.

You won’t find staid portraits of straight-backed family members with stiff smiles in Dan’s work. He prefers that his subjects interact with one another and explore their surroundings.

By encouraging such interplay, his images celebrate relationships - a mother greeting her newborn or wandering with her child through a pumpkin patch to select the perfect candidate for a Halloween jack-o-lantern, the bliss of a newly wed couple or the contentment of partners who have spent decades by one another’s side.

These are the instants - the moments, both ordinary and important - that Dan captures. For eternity.
