Designer Christy Brown turns dreams into reality

The nebulous world of branding and marketing is punishing to the uninitiated but graphic designer Christy Brown has become the Fairy Godmother for those in need of a professional image, including General Mills and Abdallah Candies — and now Anthologie.

Christy was commissioned to design the Anthologie logo in late 2008 and had no trouble using her nine years of industry experience to turn vague descriptors and emotions into the precise swirling vine and tranquil colors behind the Anthologie logomark.

Christy recognized her creative talents at an early age. She fostered her passion for the arts throughout her educational experience and was drawn to graphic design before graduating high school. After enrolling into design classes as an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Christy said she knew she had found her calling.

She relishes the opportunity to work with clients who allow her to rely on her instincts for their design projects, conveying their messages and goals while allowing her the freedom to showcase her personal style, which is feminine and ornate.

" ... I just love being creative and concepting new designs for clients," Christy said. "It's more fun for me than the actual work!"

Christy initially created three designs for Anthologie, including an abstract tree with repeating circular branches and Christy's personal favorite, a feminine tree with accented with a bit of whimsy. However, Anthologie co-owners Dan Iverson and John Magnoski favored her most minimalistic treatment. Today, Christy is also fond of this design.

"I love the simplicity of [the logomark] and the color combinations are very soothing and feminine," she said. "The flow of the vine really brings the eye to the leaf and together they represent the feeling of growth and evolution.

Christy was conscious of the prospective Anthologie audience and the company's mission throughout the design process.

"I have so much confidence that this mark with help [Anthologie's] brand succeed and grow," she said.

Christy resides in Andover with her husband, Tony; daughter, Alyssa; and son Alec. For more information on her graphic design work, please call 612-720-8930 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
